So before we speak about competition, let’s understand what a ‘limiting belief’ is. I’ve spoken at length about ‘limiting beliefs’ in my blog post on
{must read}
Limiting beliefs are the negative beliefs we once formed in our subconscious mind when a negative situation occured in our life. It was our mind’s attempt to protect us from pain/discomfort. When we sit in a healing or coaching session, we understand how many limiting beliefs we are carrying since decades + genetically.
Competition is good.
Competition is healthy.
I have to be the best.
I am the best.
Only being number 1 matters. Number 2s,3s are forgotten.
I have to be the first one to ___
My only competition is with myself.
No pain, no gain.
Success is the best revenge.
Beat them with success.
All of the above are debilitating beliefs and lies we tell ourselves.
The roots of these lies are in the group consciousness, society.
But who is the part of the society? We are.
When did all this sense of competition start?
These were formulated centuries ago when men were fighting land, food, shelter, kingdom, etc. Everyone was operating on survival mechanism. Everyone was insecure and didn’t know what to do. But today, things are different. Competition stems from a space of insecurity. If you love competing you’d probably get triggered by my words. But if my words in this blog post soothe you like a healing elixir, then you probably need to drop the whole ideology of competing.
We have grown up hearing most of the aforementioned beliefs but my question to you is that-
Is competing the only way to prove to yourself and others that you’re good?
Also, why is it that you need to prove anything to anyone?
Shouldn’t you be focussing on that you’re good anyway, regardless of winning or losing?
Some people deflect this whole conversation by saying ‘Competition is fun.’
Is it though?
How do you feel when you’re on the losing side?
How do you feel when you’re on the winning side?
It’s a toggle between feeling inferior & an ego fluff.
After bagging a victory don’t you allow your ego to fluff a bit?
That’s superiority complex, by the way.
Competing in Sports
When it comes to sports, they date back to centuries when we as a society didn’t know what to do with our time, energy and freedom. So, sports in the form of play came about. Then to feel incentivized to play seriously and not frivolously, teams were formed (winning & losing concept was created) and that made everyone tune out the distractions and focus on the game. This brought a lot of pleasure and joy to everyone. But that’s where the competition must end.
Sports teaches us sportsman-spirit.
It helps us understand that concept of KING (winning team) and KING MAKER (losing team). The KING won’t be the king without the KING MAKER. I see a lot of people when consuming sports content getting very carried away with winning. They bet or get attached and fight over teams, etc. The whole idea when consuming sports content is to view it from a neutral, happy stand point, appreciate the talent sportspeople showcase.
'I hate competition' kinda people
I know a lot of people who admit that they despise competing but say they are "dragged into it" through comparisons. We are only dragged into something if we believe in it somewhere too. If you hate competition and still find yourself competing then somewhere you also like it. This is something you must work on decoding with your Healer & Life Coach.
The core issue with competition is that it is based on a highly toxic idea that you are good enough only if you win or do well in the competition.
I implore you to shift your mindset on competition and start focussing on
> Enjoying your journey of life
> Setting goals for yourself based on what makes you feel fulfilled
> Being grateful with where you’re at in life
> Learning new life skills
> Constantly upgrading yourself to become the wisest and kindest version of yourself
The above pointers are good yet generic and if you really wish to get more clarity on the purpose of your life and how to go about setting and reaching your goals, manifesting and moving forward, please book a session with me.
