Geranium | Three Michelin star, Best Restaurant in the World

This blog post picks up where the last one left off and I have saved the best for last. Food in Copenhagen has been nothing short of extraordinary during our trip. When we started planning our trip to Copenhagen, we first and foremost put ourselves on the waitlist for Noma and Geranium. Until the second last day of our trip we had not secured a table at either of them. So imagine our shock and surprise when after a series of desperate phone calls to both restaurants, the remarkable staff at Geranium called back to offer a dinner reservation on the last day of our trip.

Geranium currently sits on the number 2 spot on the 2021 World’s Best Restaurants list (behind Noma) and has 3 Michelin Stars under its belt. I have also heard rumors that 2022 might be the year when Geranium de-thrones Noma. We will eventually find out on 18th July when the 2022 list is revealed.

We knew this was a big moment for us. Not everyday do you get a chance to dine at one of the world’s best restaurants. While Noma’s success put Denmark on the global culinary map, Geranium has taken it forward with its innovative and modern twist on classic Danish ingredients and flavours. We walked in with no prior knowledge about the restaurant or head chef Rasmus Kofoed. In hindsight, this was a blessing because we had no expectations when we walked in. We were ready to be mesmerized with the food and service at Geranium.

The restaurant itself is a marvel to behold. The staff are friendly and light-hearted. The decor is modern and minimalist. Not for a moment did we feel we were seated in a 3 Michelin starred restaurant. Our first surprise came when we were informed that we would be having the chef’s menu that had 21 courses!!!! Geranium is currently serving its Spring and Ocean menu which means the dishes are inspired from and pay homage to the plants and sea-life that are thriving in this part of the year. Naturally then, we opted for the vegetarian menu. Have a look at the dishes we sampled. They were nothing short of WOW…..
